In high-school, the MEP-BSR provided me a platform and a safe space to express myself in a political way, in a manner of collaborative jovial exploration. The lessons in team-working and team-building, as well as in public speaking and resolution drafting are ones I still carry with me. Not to mention the fun moments and friendships that ensued.

Hanna Ojanen

All of my MEP BSR sessions are an unforgettable part of my life. For me, it allowed me to see my progress in becoming more open and confident, starting from a committee member and ending as a GA vice-president. For all of you, it will be a great opportunity to open yourselves not only to other people, but especially to their opinions. MEP will challenge you to learn to both agree and disagree and to debate constructively – all of it in the fun and accepting environment.

Although I didn’t pursue a career in humanities or social sciences (I am a research scientist in artificial intelligence), MEP BSR gave me the irreplaceable skills of discussion, respect and confidence, so necessary in all life paths.

MEP gave me the chance to travel to countries I would have never visited and meet people I would have never talked to. I learned about current policy challenges and the political process in the EU in such an engaging way. You can’t get that perspective only by reading books.

Being a part of MEP gives you a set of tools that will be useful regardless of which direction your life takes you. It teaches you public speaking, debating, policy processes, and cooperation, to name a few. These are tools that will be advantageous regardless of the field you choose to work in. MEP truly shows that cooperation is possible despite political, cultural, and personal differences.

Thinking back on the MEP, I remember living with a Hungarian on a houseboat in The Netherlands, dancing traditional folk dance with a Norwegian in Latvia, and having my prejudices challenged when engaging in conversation with a young Russian who – as I found out – thought, cared, and felt just the same as I.

Through the MEP I have developed lasting cross-border friendships that to this day are some of my strongest…
